OThe virus that held a nation captive: COVID –19. In the future, when we remember 2020, this time will be defined by the corona virus. We will recall for the younger generations standing in line to buy toilet paper and being unable to find hand sanitizer. We will bemoan having to stay in the house for months and then when venturing out staying 6 feet away from others. We will describe the fear that gripped many. This pandemic will be an event by which we mark time, pre COVID-19 or post COVID-19. It is a certainty that life, as we know it, will change forever. The 1960s, known in history as the decade that changed a nation, influenced attitudes on lifestyle and social behavior. The rebellion against traditional values inspired protests and the casual use of marijuana. The mantra of the 60s was “tune in, turn on and drop out”. Music and movies in that decade reflected the mantra. Today we are living with changes in social behavior birthed in the 1960s. For those of us who have accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, our lifestyle and social behavior should be guided by God’s Word. Our worldview should be filtered through the Holy Spirit inspired Bible, the only source of truth. Psalm 33:12-15 says “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for His inheritance. From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind, from His dwelling place He watches all who live on earth-He who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.” God is interested in our lifestyle and behavior. Psalm 14:34 says “Righteousness exalts a nation; sin is a disgrace to any people”. Psalm 33:18-19 says “But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.” Choose not to be defined by events of the 1960s or 2020, but by the Word. Choose to be One Nation Under God.
